What the Koran Says, Part 2

What Muhammad Said about Jesus Christ (and the Trinity)

This list is not necessarily exhaustive on every subject, but contains a significant representation of each, and should be sufficient to demonstrate that belief in the Koran is not compatible with Christianity.  If anyone is worried about the context of each reference, I suggest they look them up themselves to their satisfaction.

JESUS WAS CONCEIVED OF VIRGIN MARY BY GABRIEL

  • [3.45] When the angels said:  ‘O Mary, Allah gives you glad tidings of a Word from Him, whose name is Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary.  He shall be honored in this world and in the Everlasting Life and he shall be among those who are close.
[3.46] He shall speak to people in his cradle and when he is aged, and shall be among the righteous.’
[3.47] ‘Lord, ‘she said, ‘how can I bear a child when no human being has touched me?’  He replied:  ‘Such is the Will of Allah.  He creates whom He will.  When He decrees a thing, He only says: “Be,” and it is.
  • [19.17] We sent to her Our Spirit (Gabriel) in the resemblance of a perfect human.
[19.18] (And when she saw him) she said:  ‘I take refuge in the Merciful from you!  If you are fearful.’
[19.19] ‘I am the Messenger of your Lord,’ he replied, ‘and have come to give you a pure boy.’
[19.20] ‘How shall I bear a son, ‘ she answered, ‘when I am not touched by a human and not unchaste?’
[19.21] “Even so” he replied, “as such your Lord has said:  ‘Easy it is for Me.  And We shall make him a sign to mankind and a mercy from Us.  It is a matter decreed.'”
  • [21.91] And she (Mary) who guarded her virginity.  We breathed into her of Our spirit (Gabriel), and made her and her son a sign for the worlds.
  • [66.12] And, Mary, ‘Imran’s daughter, who guarded her chastity so We breathed into her of Our Spirit (Gabriel); and she put her trust in the Words of her Lord and His Books, and was among the devout.

JESUS RECEIVED THE KORAN BEFORE MUHAMMAD (BUT IT WAS LATER LOST)

  • [2.4] Who believe in that which has been sent down to you (Prophet Muhammad) and what has been sent down before you (to Prophets Jesus and Moses) and firmly believe in the Everlasting Life.
  • [2.87] To Moses We gave the Book and after him We sent other Messengers.  We gave (Prophet) Jesus, the son of Mary, veritable signs, and supported him with the Spirit of Purity (Gabriel).  Will you then become proud whenever any Messenger comes to you with that which does not suit your fancies, and you belied some (Prophet Jesus) and killed others!
  • [2.136] Say:  ‘We believe in Allah and that which is sent down to us, and in what was sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the tribes; to Moses and Jesus and the Prophets from their Lord.  We do not differentiate between any of them, and to Him we are submissive (Muslims).’
  • [3.3] He has sent down to you the Book with the truth, confirming what preceded it; and He has sent down the Torah and the Gospel (of Prophet Jesus which has been lost)
[3.4] before, as a guidance for people, and He sent down the Criterion.  As for those who disbelieve in the verses of Allah, for them is an intense punishment.  Allah is Mighty, Owner of Vengeance.
  • [3.52] When (Prophet) Jesus felt their disbelief, he said:  ‘Who will be my helpers in the way of Allah?’  The disciples replied:  ‘We are the helpers of Allah.  We believe in Allah.  Bear witness that we are submitters (Muslims).
[3.53] Lord, we have believed in what You sent down and followed the Messenger.  Write us among Your witnesses.’
[3.54] They devised, and Allah devised.  And Allah is the Best Deviser.
[3.55] Allah said:  ‘(Prophet) Jesus, I will take you to Me and will raise you to Me, and I will purify you from those who disbelieve.  I will make your followers (who died before Prophet Muhammad) above those who disbelieve till the Day of Resurrection.  Then, to Me you shall all return, and I shall judge between you as to that you were at variance.
  • [3.84] Say:  ‘We believe in Allah and in what is sent down to us and in that which was sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and the tribes, and in that which was given to (Prophets) Moses and Jesus, and the Prophets from their Lord.  We do not differentiate between any of them.  To Him we are submitters (Muslims).’
  • [19.29] So [Mary] pointed to him (Prophet Jesus).  But they replied:  ‘How can we speak with a baby in the cradle?’
[19.30] He (the baby) said:  ‘I am the worshiper of Allah.  Allah has given me the Book and made me a Prophet.’
  • [57.25] We have sent Our Messengers with proofs, and sent them with the Book and the Scales, so that people might establish the Scale (of Justice). . . .
[57.26] We sent forth Noah and Abraham, and appointed the Prophethood and the Book to be given to their descendants.  Some were guided, but many were impious.
[57.27] Following them We sent Our (other) Messengers, and We sent following in their footsteps, (Prophet) Jesus, the son of Mary and gave him the Gospel, and put tenderness and mercy in the hearts of his followers.  As for monasticism, they invented it thereby seeking the pleasure of Allah.  We did not write it for them, and they did not observe it as it should be observed.  We gave to those of them who believed their wage, but many of them are impious.

JESUS WAS ONE OF MANY PROPHETS OR MESSENGERS

  • [2.87] To Moses We gave the Book and after him We sent other Messengers.  We gave (Prophet) Jesus, the son of Mary, veritable signs, and supported him with the Spirit of Purity (Gabriel). Will you then become proud whenever any Messenger comes to you with that which does not suit your fancies, and you belied some (Prophet Jesus) and killed others!
  • [2.253] Of these Messengers, We have preferred some above others.  To some Allah spoke; and some He raised in rank.  We gave (Prophet) Jesus, the son of Mary, clear signs and strengthened him with the Spirit of Purity (Gabriel).  Had Allah willed, those who succeeded them would not have fought against one another after the clear verses came to them. But they differed among themselves; some believed, and others disbelieved. Yet had Allah willed, they would not have fought against one another.  Allah does whatever He will.
  • [3.48] He will teach him the Book, the Wisdom, the Torah and the Gospel,
[3.49] to be a Messenger to the Children of Israel, . . .
[3.50] Likewise confirming the Torah that has been before me and to make lawful to you some of the things you have been forbidden.  I bring you a sign from your Lord, therefore, fear Allah and obey me.
  • [4.163] We have revealed to you as We revealed to Noah and to the Prophets after him, and We revealed to (Prophets) Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and the tribes, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and We gave to David the Psalms.
  • [5.46] And We sent, following in their footsteps (Prophet) Jesus, the son of Mary, confirming that which was before him in the Torah, and gave him the Gospel, in which there is guidance and light, confirming that which was before him in the Torah, a guide and an admonition to the cautious.
[5.47] Therefore, let the people of Gospel judge in accordance with that which Allah has sent in it.  Those who do not judge according to that which Allah has sent down are the evildoers.
  • [5.75] The Messiah, the son of Mary, was not except a Messenger, other Messengers had gone before him.  His mother was in the state of sincerity, they both ate food.  See how We make plain to them Our signs.  Then, see how perverted they are.
  • [6.84] We gave him Isaac and Jacob and guided both; and We guided Noah before them, among his descendants were David and Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses and Aaron as such, We recompense the gooddoers,
[6.85] and (Prophets) Zachariah, John, Jesus and Elias, each was of the righteous,
  • [33.7] We took from the Prophets their covenant and from you (Prophet Muhammad), from Noah and Abraham, from Moses and Jesus the son of Mary.  We took a solemn covenant from them,
  • [42.13] He has made plain for you the Religion with which He charged Noah and that which We have revealed to you, and that with which We charged (Prophets) Abraham, Moses and Jesus, (saying): ‘Establish the Religion and do not be divided therein.’
  • [61.6] And when (Prophet) Jesus, the son of Mary said: ‘Children of Israel, I am sent to you by Allah to confirm the Torah that was before me, and to give news of a Messenger (Prophet Muhammad) who will come after me whose name shall be Ahmad.’  Yet when he came to them with clear proofs, they said:  ‘This is clear sorcery.’

JESUS WAS A CREATED BEING (i.e., ARIANISM)

  • [3.45] When the angels said: ‘O Mary, Allah gives you glad tidings of a Word (Be) from Him, whose name is Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary.  He shall be honored in this world and in the Everlasting Life and he shall be among those who are close.
[3.46] He shall speak to people in his cradle and when he is aged, and shall be among the righteous.’
[3.47] ‘Lord,’ she said, ‘how can I bear a child when no human being has touched me?’  He replied:  ‘Such is the Will of Allah.  He creates whom He will.  When He decrees a thing, He only says:  “Be,” and it is.
[3.59] Truly, the likeness of (Prophet) Jesus with Allah, is as the likeness of Adam, He created him from dust then He said to him “Be” and he was.
  • [4.171] People of the Book, do not exaggerate your religion.  Do not say about Allah except the truth.  Indeed, the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, is only a Messenger (and Prophet) of Allah, and His Word which He gave to Mary, and a (created) spirit by Him. . . .

CHRISTIANITY IS NOT TRUE RELIGION

  • [2.62] Those who believe, Jews, Nazarenes and Sabaeans whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day and does good deeds shall be rewarded by their Lord; they have nothing to fear nor are they saddened.
[2.63] And when We made a covenant with you and raised the Mount above you, (saying) ‘Take what We have given you forcefully and remember what is in it, so that you will be cautious,’
[2.64] yet after that you turned away, but for the Grace of Allah and His Mercy you would have surely been among the losers.
  • [2.105] The unbelievers among the People of the Book (Jews and Nazarenes) and the idolaters resent that any good should have been sent down to you from your Lord.  But Allah chooses whom He will for His Mercy.  And Allah is of great bounty.
[2.106] If We supersede any verse or cause it to be forgotten, We bring a better one or one similar.  Do you not know that Allah has power over all things!
  • [2.135] They say:  ‘Be Jews or Nazarenes and you shall be guided.  ‘Say:  ‘No, rather the Creed of Abraham, the upright one.  He was not among the idolaters.’
[2.137] If they believe as you have believed they shall be guided; if they reject it, they shall surely be in clear dissension. . . .
  • [3.20] If they argue with you, say:  ‘I have submitted my face to Allah and so have those who follow me.’  To those who have received the Book (Jews and Nazarenes) and to the ignorant, ask:  ‘Have you submitted yourselves to Allah?’  If they became Muslims they were guided, if they turn away, then your only duty is to warn them. Allah is watching over all His worshipers.
  • [3.67] No, Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Nazarene.  He was of pure faith, a submitter (Muslim).  He was never of the idolaters.
[3.68] Surely, the people who are nearest to Abraham are those who followed him, and this Prophet (Muhammad), and those who believe.  Allah is the Guardian of the believers.
  • [3.85] He who chooses a religion other than Islam, it will not be accepted from him, and in the Everlasting Life he will be among the losers.
[3.86] How shall Allah guide a people who lapse into disbelief after they believed and bore witness that the Messenger is true, and after receiving clear proofs!  Allah does not guide the harmdoers.
  • [4.149] If you display good or hide it, or pardon an evil, surely, Allah is the Pardoner, the Powerful.
[4.150] Those who disbelieve in Allah and His Messengers, and desire to divide between Allah and His Messengers (by believing in Him without them), and say, ‘We believe in some (Prophets Moses and Jesus), and disbelieve in some of them (such as Prophet Muhammad),’ desiring to take between this (and that) a way (between belief and disbelief)
[4.151] those in truth are the unbelievers, and We have prepared for the unbelievers a humiliating punishment.
  • [5.19] People of the Book!  After an interval during which there were no Messengers, Our Messenger (Muhammad) has come to clarify (your religion) to you, lest you should say:  ‘No bearer of glad tidings or a warner has come to us.’. . .
  • [29.47] . . . . None reject Our verses except the unbelievers.
  • [39.63] To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth.  Those who disbelieve in the verses of Allah they are the losers.
  • [98.4] Those to whom the Book was given did not divide themselves until the Clear Proof came to them.
[98.5] Yet they were ordered to worship Allah alone, making the Religion His sincerely, upright, and to establish their prayers and to pay the obligatory charity.  That is indeed the Religion of Straightness.
[98.6] The unbelievers among the People of the Book and the idolaters shall be for ever in the Fire of Gehenna (Hell).  They are the worst of all creatures.

Surah 109–The Unbelievers, −Al−Kafiroon:

  • [109.1] Say: ‘O unbelievers,
[109.2] I do not worship what you worship,
[109.3] nor do you worship what I worship.
[109.4] Nor am I worshiping what you have worshipped,
[109.5] neither will you worship what I worship.
[109.6] To you your religion, and to me my Religion. ‘

CHRIST DID NOT DIE IN THE FLESH (i.e., DOCETISM)

  • [4.157] and for their saying, ‘We killed the Messiah, Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger (and Prophet) of Allah.’  They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but to them, he (the crucified) had been given the look (of Prophet Jesus).  Those who differ concerning him (Prophet Jesus) are surely in doubt regarding him, they have no knowledge of him, except the following of supposition, and (it is) a certainty they did not kill him.
[4.158] Rather, Allah raised him up to Him.  Allah is Almighty, the Wise.

CHRIST IS NOT THE MESSIAH OR SON OF GOD

  • [2.116] [“People of the Book”] say:  ‘Allah has taken (to Himself) a son.’  Exaltations to Him (Allah).  For Him is what is in the heavens and the earth, all are obedient to Him.
  • [4.159] There is not one of the People of the Book but will surely believe in him (Prophet Jesus) before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them.
So believe in Allah and His Messengers and do not say:  ‘Trinity.’  Refrain, it is better for you.  Allah is only One God.  Exaltations to Him that He should have son!  To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and in the earth, it is sufficient that Allah is the Guardian.
  • [5.17] Those who say that Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary are indeed those who disbelieved.  Say:  ‘Who then could prevent any thing from Allah, if He willed to destroy the Messiah, son of Mary, together with his mother and all the people of the earth?  For Allah is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them.  He creates what He will and has power over all things.’
  • [5.72] The unbelievers are those who say:  ‘Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary.’  But the Messiah said:  ‘Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’  He who associates anything with Allah, Allah has indeed forbidden Paradise to him, and his abode shall be in the Fire.  The harmdoers shall have no helpers.
  • [5.116] And when Allah said:  ‘( Prophet) Jesus, son of Mary, did you ever say to the people:  “Take me and my mother for two gods, other than Allah?”  ‘Exaltations to You,’ he said, ‘how could I say that to which I have no right?  If I had said that, You would have surely known.  You know what is in my self, but I do not know what is in Yours.  Indeed, You are the Knowledgeable of the unseen.
[5.117] I spoke to them of nothing except that which You ordered me, that you worship Allah, my Lord and our Lord.  I witnessed them whilst living in their midst and ever since You took me to You, You have been the Watcher over them.  You are the Witness of everything.
  • [6.100] Yet they regard the jinn as the partners of Allah, although He created them, and without knowledge ascribe to Him sons and daughters.  Exaltations to Him!  He is above what they describe.
[6.101] He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth.  How can He have a son when He had no female companion?  He created all things and has knowledge of all things.
[6.102] That is Allah, your Lord.  There is no god except He . . . .
  • [9.30] The Jews say Ezra is the son of Allah, while the Christians (who follow Paul) say the Messiah is the son of Allah.  Such are their assertions, by which they imitate those who disbelieved before.  Allah fights them!  How perverted are they!
[9.31] They take their rabbis and monks as lords besides Allah, and the Messiah, son of Mary, though they were ordered to worship but one God, there is no god except He.  Exalted is He above that they associate with Him!
  • [10.68] They say:  ‘Allah has taken a son.’  Exaltations be to Him (Allah)!  Rich is He.  To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth you have no authority for this!  What, do you say of Allah what you do not know?
[10.69] Say:  ‘Those who forge falsehoods against Allah shall not prosper.’
[10.70] (They take their) enjoyment in this world, but to Us they shall return, then, We shall let them taste the terrible punishment because they were unbelievers.’
  • [17.111] Say:  ‘Praise be to Allah who has not taken a son; who has no associate in the Kingdom; nor out of humility any guardian.’ . . .
  • [18.4] And it (the Koran) warns those who say:  ‘Allah has taken a son.’
[18.5] Surely, of this they have no knowledge, neither they nor their fathers; it is a monstrous word that comes from their mouths, they say nothing but a lie.
  • [19.34] Such was (Prophet) Jesus, the son of Mary.  A saying of truth, concerning what they doubt.
[19.35] It is not for Allah to take a son!  Exaltations to Him!  When He decrees a thing He only says:  ‘Be,’ and it is.
  • [19.88] And they say:  ‘The Merciful has taken a son.’
[19.89] Surely, you have brought a monstrous thing!
[19.90] Thereby the heavens are nearly torn and the earth split asunder, and mountains fall crashing down
[19.91] because they have ascribed a son to the Merciful.
[19.92] It is not for the Merciful to take a son!
[19.93] There is none in the heavens and earth except he comes to the Merciful as a worshiper.
  • [21.26] They say ‘The Merciful has taken a son.’. . .
  • [25.2] to whom the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs, who has not taken a son, nor does He have an associate in the Kingdom, and He created everything, then He ordained it very precisely.
  • [37.149] Now, ask them, has your Lord daughters, and they sons?
[37.150] Or, did We create the angels females while they were witnessing?
[37.151] Then is it of their lying that they say:
[37.152] ‘Allah has begotten?’  They are truly liars.
[37.153] Has He chosen daughters above sons?
[37.154] What is the matter with you?  How do you judge?
[37.155] What, will you not remember?
[37.156] Or, do you have a clear authority?
[37.157] Bring your Book, if what you say is true!
[37.158] They assert kinship between Him and the angels.  But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell).
  • [39.4] If Allah had desired to take a son, He would have chosen whatever He willed out of His creation.
  • [43.57] When the son of Mary is mentioned as an example, your people turn away from it
[43.58] and say:  ‘What are our gods better, or is he?’  They do not mention him to you except to dispute, truly, they are a contentious nation.
[43.59] He (Prophet Jesus) was only a worshiper whom We favored and We made him an example to the Children of Israel.
[43.63] And when (Prophet) Jesus came with clear signs, he said:  ‘I have come to you with wisdom and to clarify to you some of the matters about which you differ.  Fear Allah and obey me.
[43.64] Indeed, Allah is my Lord and your Lord, therefore worship Him.  That is the Straight Path.’
  • [43.81] Say (Prophet Muhammad):  ‘If the Merciful had a son, I would be the first of the worshipers.’
  • [72.3] He exalted be the Majesty of our Lord, who has neither taken to Himself a wife, nor a son!

THERE IS NO TRINITY

  • [4.171] People of the Book, do not exaggerate your religion.  Do not say about Allah except the truth.  Indeed, the Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, is only a Messenger (and Prophet) of Allah, and His Word (Be) which He gave to Mary, and a (created) spirit by Him.  So believe in Allah and His Messengers and do not say:  ‘Trinity. ‘ Refrain, it is better for you.  Allah is only One God.  Exaltations to Him that He should have son!  To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and in the earth, it is sufficient that Allah is the Guardian.
  • [5.73] Indeed those who say:  ‘Allah is the third of the Trinity’ became unbelievers.  There is but One God.  If they do not desist in what they say, a painful punishment will afflict those of them that disbelieve.
  • [21.24] Have they taken gods, other than Him?  Say:  ‘Bring us your proof!  Here is the Remembrance of he who is with me and the Remembrance of those before me.’  But no, most of them do not know the truth, therefore they turn away.
[21.25] We never sent a Messenger before you except that We revealed to him saying:  ‘There is no god except Me, therefore, worship Me.’
  • [25.2] to whom the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs, who has not taken a son, nor does He have an associate in the Kingdom, and He created everything, then He ordained it very precisely.
[25.3] Yet they worship, other than Him, gods which cannot create anything and were themselves created. They own neither harm nor benefit for themselves, neither do they own death nor life, nor a resurrection.
  • [35.40] Say:  ‘Have you considered your associates who you call upon, other than Allah?  Show me what they have created in the earth!  Or, have they a partnership in the heavens?’ Or, have We given them a Book so that they have proof of it?  No, the harmdoers promise each other nothing else but delusion.
  • [39.65] It has already been revealed to you and to those who have gone before you, that if you associate (partners) with Allah, your works would be annulled and you will be among the losers.
  • [46.4] Say:  ‘Have you seen those whom you call upon, other than Allah?  Show me what they have created from the earth!  Or, do they have a partnership in the heavens?  Bring me a Book before this or some other remnant of knowledge, if what you say is true.’
  • [6.163] He has no partner, with that I am commanded, and I am the first of the submitters (Muslims). ‘
[6.164] Say:  ‘Should I seek a lord other than Allah, who is the Lord of all things? . . .
  • [10.35] Say:  ‘Do any of your partners guide you to the truth?’  Say:  ‘Allah, He guides to the truth.  Who then is worthier to be followed He who guides to the truth or he who cannot guide unless he (himself) is guided?  What is the matter with you, how then can you judge?’
[10.36] Most of them follow nothing except conjecture.  But conjecture does not help against the truth. Allah knows the things they do.
